Before anyone walks into your business, they look it up on a phone. That search is now your front door — and for a lot of Chicago small businesses, it is a door with nothing behind it. These are the three things I find most often, and what each one quietly costs.

No website at all

Google sends people to a delivery app, a Groupon page or an old directory listing — with wrong hours and no photos.

Why it mattersA customer who can't find your hours doesn't call to ask. They tap the next result. You never hear about the ones you lost — which is exactly what makes this easy to ignore for years.

Why it mattersAn old date is read as "closed, or close to it." You may have spent years building a reputation in person; this is the version of it that strangers meet first, and it is arguing against you.

"Not Secure" warnings

Older sites without HTTPS get flagged by Chrome and Safari, and customers hesitate to call or book.

Why it mattersThe warning appears before anyone has read a word about you, and it lands hardest on the page where they were about to type a phone number. Browsers add it automatically — it is no judgement on your business, but customers can't tell the difference.

The browser tab still showed the builder's default title and the footer was six years old. Finished pages, bilingual, with a form that reaches the office.

I already have Yelp and Instagram. Why do I need a website?我已经有 Yelp 和 Instagram 了，还需要网站吗？

Keep them — your website links to both. The difference is that a website is yours: it shows your real hours, menu and prices in one place, and Google often puts it first when people search your name.

How much does it cost?做一个网站要多少钱？

What does it cost each year after launch?上线以后每年还要花多少钱？

Usually just the domain name, about $10–20 a year, paid directly to the registrar. Hosting for a site like this is typically free. Monthly updates are optional and low-cost.

I don't have good photos.我没有好看的照片怎么办？

That's a solvable problem. I study at a film school in Chicago, so the people I work with are film and photography majors — I can arrange a proper shoot of your space, your products and your staff, and video as well if you want it. Tell me what you need and I'll quote that separately; it is never required to get the site built.
